The legend lives on!
Babylon 5 is an epic series with a rabid fan base. When series creator J Michael Straczynski decided to release a new DVD mini-series he asked us to design the opening sequence, an element that he has only ever done himself (thanks for the faith Joe!).
Babylon 5 isn’t about a space station, it’s about characters and civilizations trying to maintain balance.
Our approach to the main titles was to include each of the major cultures in the series, with cards designed to evoke classic movie posters to provide an appropriate feeling of history. We gave each card depth through a combination of 3D and projection mapping, and used high-speed footage to provide an ethereal, painterly, feel.
More than anything we wanted fans to love it, and we have to admit we were a bit relieved that our little contribution to the Babylon 5 universe was well received. G’kar!
